M23 Rebels Move Towards Eastern DR Congo as Goma City Faces Major Security Crisis | Firstpost America

The United Nations has warned the the Eastern Region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is at a "breaking point". This comes as the M23 rebellion makes advances in the Eastern region. M23 Rebels have launched an assault on the Congolese army as they inch closer to the Eastern city of Goma in North Kivu. Meanwhile, at least 200 armed groups operate in Eastern DR Congo as they fight for control of mineral rich mines. However, the fighting has left millions displaced with hundreds of thousands being forced to leave their homes in the last three months. The increase in violence comes at a point when the United Nations has begun withdrawing its peacekeeping forces from the DR Congo.
