How do I work a DIGITAL VOICE RECORDER? Can I use it to record sound via line-in?

The Zoom H4n is one of my handy audio recording devices. However, since it's so expensive, I was wondering if there's something else cheaper that I can use on more informal work? I found something in a store the other day called DIGITAL VOICE RECORDER, made in China. So today we test it out. Is a digital voice recorder the same as a digital audio recorder? Can it only record microphone in, or also sound via line in or from another device's headphone out port?

UPDATE: Now that I've used this recorder a few times to record sound for video, I have some rather sad update to report. Unfortunately this recorder sometimes skip a few seconds when recording. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen unfortunately. This makes it a very low fidelity product I'm afraid. You'll never know if it will skip a second or more while the speaker is saying something important. Bummer :(
