Carved by the Rapa Nui people, each Moai is unique, with the tallest reaching about 33 feet high and weighing around 82 tons. Easter Island is located deep in the Pacific Ocean, with the nearest continental country being Chile, around 2,200 miles away. The name "Easter Island" was given by the Dutch explorer Jacob Roggeveen, who landed there on Easter Sunday in 1722. The island is known as Rapa Nui to its original inhabitants. But Easter Island is not just home to these giant sentinels. It also boasts one of the world's few written languages that remains undeciphered – Rongorongo.
