The spectacled cormorant, also known as the Pallas's cormorant, is a large, black seabird with striking white feathering around its eyes, giving it the appearance of wearing spectacles. This bird is found along the coastlines of eastern Asia, primarily in Russia and Japan.
Spectacled cormorants are excellent divers and swimmers, hunting for fish underwater with the help of their webbed feet. They have long, slender necks and sharp beaks that are perfect for catching and swallowing their prey whole.
Unfortunately, the spectacled cormorant is listed as critically endangered due to overfishing, pollution, and habitat destruction. Conservation efforts are being made to protect these unique and beautiful birds from extinction.
