An e-bike battery fire and explosion expert witness
About Rob's Repairs:
Rob co-invented the Revived Battery Electric Pickup Truck shown on CBC Newsworld. Rob was part of the group that created the Tap Water Scooter shown on CTV's evening news. Rob has saved at least two disabled people from plasma fires, as shown on Rob's stairlift repair diaries on video. North Vancouver City Council awarded Rob for his battery inventions. Winner of green inventions, from Canadian Business and Vancouver magazines. Cited as a "modern-day Thomas Edison" by Sun Peaks news. Was in front pages of Ming Pao and Burnaby Now, with the Revived Battery Electric Pickup Truck, which got 450 e-MPG mileage according to engineers. Rob's electric rides' technical details are listed in EValbum.com's visual database.
Rob was nominated for a City of Richmond award. He rode his solar-charged ebike -- that charges even in the shade -- to city hall. There is a video of Richmond city hall's Chief Of Security praising this fun invention on two wheels.
N.B. Certain battery chargers whether for lithium or other chemistries would void fire insurance policies ab initio. I confirmed this with a fire inspector. His statement is online.

Circa 2019 I accidentally dropped five lithium cells which were tied together intoa wooden floor at a height of approximately four feet. Several hours later I saw wisps of smoke. The pack was warm to touch. I immediately threw this pack into nearby wet woods. Someone biking at night in January may have provided a similar shock by accident.
I have seen one or more forum posts regarding vibration causing lithium battery fires due to wires becoming detached.
Circa 2017 I discovered a cold-solder on a stairlift client's brand new lithium pack. Had that pack's wire touched a live metal part, a dead short could have ensued. There are two packs in an Acorn 180 stairlift. I also have one or more videos online showing live current in this model's metal parts.
A somewhat similar scenario: An engineer jumpered an Acorn 180 that lost power midrail. His jumper tactic did not work. I was hired to reprogram this stairlift. However, my instruments indicated a live rail, a wiring flaw, and unbalaced packs. That version of the Acorn 180 lacked the mil-spec BMS of the older 180's. The older battery packs were manufactured by a UK military industrial company. I warned people in the house to not connect anything again until full repairs were completed. I uploaded the only known photo of the mil-spec pack's BMS in one of my stairlift repair diaries because most people do not know how many safeguards exist in the different versions of the Acorn 180. One ebike forum moderator says he is giving up on lithium due to its inherent danger, after years of posts on lithium fires.
