Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Playthrough (GameCube - Progressive Scan Mode) - Part 1
This is part 1 of my 100% playthrough of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for the GameCube. I'm playing the game in progressive scan mode using an actual GameCube (not the Wii). I'm also playing on Hard Mode.
After beating Metroid Prime in 2002, I became instantly sold on Nintendo's new first-person style for the Metroid series, and I simply couldn't wait to play more. So when Metroid Prime 2 was announced, I knew I would have to get it. I later received the game for Christmas of 2004 along with The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures and a Nintendo DS system. I probably beat Metroid Prime 2 within a week or so while also completing Four Swords Adventures and Super Mario 64 DS.
Just like its predecessor, Metroid Prime 2 was amazing, although it was much harder than the first game. However, this didn't bother me much because Metroid was originally a very difficult game that was meant to appeal to advanced gamers. But even so, there were still a few portions of the game that were imbalanced, such as the Boost Ball Guardian and the Emperor Ing.
Metroid Prime 2 utilized the familiar light world/dark world mechanic made famous by A Link to the Past, and for the most part, I think it worked well. Dark Aether was both scary and challenging, and that added to the game's atmosphere. The puzzles, on the other hand, which involved traveling back and forth between the light and dark worlds, were perhaps too complicated.
I'm a huge fan of the boss fights in this game, especially the massive Quadraxis. I also loved the battles with Dark Samus. Just like the SA-X in Metroid Fusion, Dark Samus made for a great opponent, except this time you got to face a Samus clone head-on instead of running, which I think works better.
Overall, I'm just a huge fan of this game. For this playthrough I'll be getting 100% of the items and scans, so expect lots and lots of scanning (I apologize if it makes the videos boring). I have the official Nintendo Power Player's Guide for this game, so that helps me quite a bit.
Once again, I'll be keeping track of all the items I pick up in each video, as well as the scans needed to get 100%. You can treat this playthrough as a walkthrough or guide if you like. I've never completed this game on hard mode, so this will be my first time doing that.
In this first part I started a new save file and headed toward the Temple Grounds.
