The Reason The X-Men '97 Writers Did What They Did To Cyclops & Jean In The First 3 Episodes Of '97.

IMHO, it's to give the fans who grew up with X-Men over the past 20 years, a decent idea as to why these two are paired up romantically in the overall X-Men franchise, since basically the beginning.

Now, not everyone is going to like this direction that they've taken, but I think it will work out in the end.
