Sometimes for the protection of others it may be necessary to take down an attacker from behind. In situations like these, you need a self defense move that removes the threat, while not endangering people around you.

The self defense technique in this video is brought to you by 5 time world kick boxing champ Kathy Long and is perfect for this type of situation. It's quick, simple, and does not require a lot of fine motor skills. This kind of takedown should not be used lightly. Forcing someone to fall backward to the ground can cause a serious life threatening head injury. However, if a person has threatened you or someone else with serious bodily harm a move like this may be warranted. Furthermore the element of surprise reduces your chance of injury. This kind of takedown is much better than a rear chokehold. The problem with a rear choke or other restraining move from behind is that you can still be attacked with a weapon, fall to your back, or be thrown around by a larger aggressor. The self defense move in this video allows you to escape very quickly and does not put you in contact with the aggressor any longer than necessary.
