💥Anyone make this? If so, what have you used it for? I’ve made 5 jars so far but haven’t actually used it.

  • I haven't made my own tallow- that was kick-ass - will do. BUT, I have made my own soap using different oils and recipies. Beef tallow being one of them. You can go to any hardware store and get lye (common-red devil 3.50 a bottle makes hundred bars+) so you can- make a two ingredient soap in batches of 12-24 bars - no additives- or add your own essential oils etc http://www.soapcalc.net/default.asp also is the needed backbone of pemmican.

  • Man, I've been maintaining a tallow supply for a number of years now, but I source it much different and much less work. A grocery store in town has beef liver arrive whole, vacuum-packed with two livers per pkg and because I just don't want them to do anything with it, not even break the vacuum seal, they like that and I get a great price - win win kinda deal. Once home, I trim off all the fat. I render it out in a medium-sized stock pot atop the stove on medium-low heat until all the fat has turned to liquid. All the meat left attached to the fat has now been turned into crispy bits of a decent snack for anyone with better teeth than mine. After dipping off the solid bits, I strain it thru a fine strainer and several layers of cheesecloth, repeating the process until it becomes as clean as you prefer it. Mine is usually white, more or less, once cooled down to a solid. It lasts forever and is the best oil for deep frying and general frying oil. I just love it and use it every opportunity when cooking. I hope I've laid it out well enough to help somebody interested, sorry i've not done a good job but I'm off to bed now. ThankQ all. WWG1WGA
