Restraining Order Required: Dog Attacks Vacuum Cleaner

Most dogs are scared of vacuum cleaners and will do everything they can to avoid them. Some, however, are slightly more ambitious and view at as their duty to defend themselves from the menace of the vacuum cleaner.

We have seen dogs hate vacuum cleaners before, but not like this pup!

My dog just dances around vacuum cleaners. He does not bark or growl. He just kind of prances around it as we move it about the house. He is a strange dog. Our understanding is that the dogs who do fear the vacuum are doing so because they do not handle loud noises very well. These dogs are usually also afraid of lawn mowers and thunderstorms. The dogs who are not fearful of vacuum cleaners tend to be more herding dogs or dogs that are used to the equipment. You may have noticed that herding dogs actually try to round up the vacuum cleaner. One way to help desensitize a fearful dog is to get him or her used to a turned off one before turning it on.
