On Tuesday morning, a major bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, collapsed after a container ship collided with it. The bridge in question is the Francis Scott Key Bridge, named after the author of the American national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner”Cause of the Collapse:
The Dali, a 290-meter (948-foot) cargo ship with a capacity of 10,000 containers, struck one of the bridge’s supports 12.
Ship-tracking data indicated that the vessel was at the location of the accident around 1:30 AM ET on Tuesday 1.
The ship’s crew reported losing power and issued a mayday call just before the collision, allowing authorities to limit vehicle traffic on the bridge
