MAJOR BRIDGE IN BALTIMORE COLLAPSES AFTER CARGO SHIP COLLISION

Early Tuesday morning, the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Interstate 695 in Baltimore collapsed sending vehicles into the water triggering a state of emergency. A 948-foot-long cargo vessel named Dali, a Singapore-flagged ship, hit a pillar at around 1:30 a.m. All members of the ship including two pilots have been accounted for and no injuries on the ship have been reported. The Dali was bound for Colombo, Sri Lanka when it left Baltimore at 1:00 a.m. Traffic to and out of the Port of Baltimore has been suspended but trucks are still being processed. The Federal Aviation Administration issued a no-fly order in the area around the Key Bridge to allow rescue workers to search for survivors from the air. Currently, about 40 ships have Baltimore as their destination and it is expected to cause a ripple effect in shipping delays in the coming days. The Port of Baltimore is the 20th biggest port in the nation and is considered an important trade hub. According to the Baltimore police commissioner there is no indication that the vessel struck the bridge intentionally. An investigation is underway for this horrific collapse.
