Kishida Pledges Beefed Up Defense in Speech to Future SDF Personnel

03/22/2024 NHK World Japan: Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio says the government aims to drastically boost its defense capability and use that, along with diplomacy, to maintain peace and deter security crises in the region. A military build-up, including nuclear and missile development, has been accelerating in areas surrounding Japan, and attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force are growing. Japan's security environment is the most complex and challenging since the end of World War II.
