March 24, 2024, 1 Peter 3:8-17, "Righteous Living" (Live, No Music)
Genesis 7:1, keyword 'righteousness', what is it?
Genesis 8:20-21, a sweet smelling savour, the offering and prayers (from a righteous person) became
. positional righteousness was imputed through the acceptance of Christ (the believer's sin was imputed to Him, while His righteousness was imputed to the believer), therefore the believer is now in good standing or position with God (the believer is now clothed in righteousness)
. progressive righteousness is explained in Noah's story (see Genesis), and progressive righteousness is an act of the will- the person needs to practice it
. historically in the Old Testament, a cracked work of pottery may have been repaired by a covering of wax, and it may have continued to have been sold alongside more valuable items. Nonetheless, an educated buyer could take a piece of pottery, and review the presence of wax patches under the illumination of sunlight. Figuratively: when God sees no patches and blemishes, He sees no sin.
1 Peter 3:8-17, this helps to remove the spiritual battle and overcome the struggle with the 4 laws mentioned in Romans 7.
[Unreserved love for the Lord.]
1 Peter 3:15, 'sanctify the Lord God in your hearts'. Normally 'sanctify' means to remove oneself from <insert subject here>. Here the definition is reversed: to say that Christ is being applied (rather than removed from) to the believer.
Deuteronomy 6:5, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and all your might'.
[Unreserved life for prayer.]
James 5:16, fervent prayer
1 Thessalonians 5:17, pray without ceasing. Conversation with God is normal for this person.
[Obedience to the Word of God.]
2 Corinthians 10:5-6, Romans 6:16, the Word of God digested and metabolized effectively.
[Unreserved concern for others.]
1 Peter 3:8, compassion (for brethren and strangers)
Ephesians 4:31-32, putting malice away and keeping Christ's love
[Unreserved willingness to go against evil times and popular culture WHEN it happens to go against God.]
1 Peter 3:13-14, who will harm someone for following Christ?
Daniel 3:15-18, example: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego refused to worship the image setup by Nebuchadnezzar. The consequence was real, however God did deliver them from harm.
Acts 5:29, 'We ought to obey God rather than men.'
[Unreserved willingness to suffer or become humiliated if needed.]
1 Peter 3:16, believers may often be shamed for their faith, but eventually those that shame the faith, may themselves be shamed
1 Peter 2:21-25, Jesus Himself suffering patiently
[Sincere and mature thinking.]
Ephesians 5:17, Philippians 1:9-11, mature thoughts
2 Corinthians 4:7, mature thought in Christ, will easily put God in control, which will easily lead to victory
Romans 6:13, progressive righteousness: putting faith in God into practice, effectively defeating sin (in the believer), daily. What would happen to the world if everyone could effectively stop sinning (especially against others)?
Colossians 3:12-14, forgiveness WITH righteousness
Colossians 3:15-16, a person needs to have peace with God first, before they have peace in their heart
[Conclusion of the matter.]
Psalm 37:23-29
