Welfare check turns deadly after a man shot at El Paseo officer, bodycam shows

On March 05, 2024, approximately 0108 hours, a patrol supervisor approached a vehicle parked at a carwash. The officer made contact with a male subject identified as Micheal A. Estrada who was seated in the driver seat of the vehicle. Estrada became uncooperative with the officer and stated he had a gun on his person. The officer continued to tell Estrada to show his hands to which the suspect did not comply. He continued making threats toward the officer. Estrada subsequently shot at the officer. The officer returned fire striking the suspect. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
