Date of Disappearance: Caroline Meister went missing on Monday, March 18 after setting out for a solo hike from the Tassajara Zen Mountain Center in Carmel Valley.

Search and Rescue Efforts: Numerous search and rescue teams scoured the wilderness surrounding Tassajara in an effort to locate her. They used high-angle search techniques, rappelling down steep terrain, and eventually discovered Caroline’s lifeless body off the “Cut Off” trail at the base of a waterfall. Tragically, she had died at the scene.
Experienced Hiker: Caroline was an experienced hiker who lived in the area and was well acquainted with the trails. Her injuries were consistent with a fall, and authorities do not suspect foul play. The forensic examination will determine the official cause of death, but it appears to have been accidental.

Community Mourning: The Sanghas at Tassajara, Green Gulch Farm, and City Center are gathering to support each other in the wake of this distressing news.
