Basically, the Savage Model 6A is the forerunner of the Stevens Model 87A, which was also made as the Springfield 87A and the Montgomery Wards Western Field model 87A. These 22 “Gill Gun” rifles could fire 22 short, 22 long and 22 long rifle rounds. These rifles could operate in semi-automatic mode when shooting 22 LR rounds.
