World’s first-ever global emissions tax moves closer to reality

After two weeks of discussions at the United Nations shipping agency in London, a decisive majority of countries have emerged in support of implementing the world’s first global emissions tax.

The International Maritime Organization convened for its latest series of negotiations aimed at addressing climate regulation within the shipping industry, which contributes approximately 3% of global carbon emissions.

Representatives from thirty-four countries, spanning both high- and low-income states, voiced their support for a universal greenhouse gas price, CNBC reported.
