Marjorie Taylor Greene files motion to remove Speaker Mike Johnson

On Friday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) initiated a motion to vacate against House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), signaling a potential future vote to remove him from his position.

While Greene has not yet compelled the vote to oust Johnson as speaker, her action sets the stage for a possible significant confrontation on the House floor.

The introduction of this motion follows the precedent set last year when Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Johnson’s predecessor, became the first House speaker to be removed after a motion to vacate was triggered by hardline Republicans.

Greene indicated that she would push for a vote to remove Johnson if he pursues the passage of Ukraine aid, a measure vehemently opposed by herself and other hardline Republicans, Axios reported.
