UNTEACHABLE SPIRIT!? / Pastor Bob's Coffee Break

Dear Pastor Bob: This last year has been constant stress: stress from multiple areas and culminated in losing my apartment in a fire. I was contacted by a church member to ask if I needed prayer and what for. I told her life had been extra hard and I wished people would actually spend time with me. I told this person it felt like people only contacted me to get information and not actually "do" anything further. This person just snapped, accusing me of "always" doing this. "This" being basically, "Just do what I think you should do." She said she would pray that I would get a "teachable spirit." I really felt attacked. The response did not feel it was out of concern or love at all. This person never responded back after that, which felt like another slap in the face. It's been months since anyone from that church has contacted me to see how I'm doing. One of the last times I went, I was at a Bible study where I shared insights on the verses we were studying. After the study I was approached by a deacon who pulled me aside to say, "Well, I agreed with what you said here, here, and here...but not this. He just stood there with his arms crossed as if he was waiting for me to beg his forgiveness and take his point of view. I have not been back to that church since then. I have debated going back. The pastor is nice, but I feel like the majority of the others seem more concerned that they are seen as one of the smart ones...one of the more pious ones. This church is filled with people that I became friends with at the Christian University I attended. I don't want to lose friends, but going there doesn't feel like family anymore. Thanks for any insights.
