The investors often go to Hong Kong to invest indirectly into the mainland and there's $1 trillion still invested in Hong Kong. The reason why Taiwan and Hong Kong are so important to the CCP is because they're rich, the people are well-educated, it's more international, and connected to the West. So the CCP wants the people and the technology.
