In an interview talking about the new Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte, showrunner Leslye Headland said she specifically brought in a writer who had never watched any Star Wars before.

According to Leslye Headland she brought in this writer because she wanted an outside perspective to narrative works. This sounds reasonable on the surface, but it’s entirely unnecessary since that is what studio screenings and test audiences are for. It also raises questions about the how much of the source material the other writers know.
