My impressions of Episode Five of the new FX adaptation of James Clavell's classic historical drama Shōgun.

Following the bloody cannon attack, a stunned Ajiro deals with the aftermath. Thundering hooves soon shatter this brief moment of quiet as an immense army crests the hills surrounding the village. Toranaga has returned, and at his side is Buntaro, still alive.

FX’s Shōgun, based on James Clavell’s bestselling novel, is set in Japan in the year 1600, at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. “Lord Yoshii Toranaga” (Hiroyuki Sanada) is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him, when a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village.
