YouTube's new AI rules

YouTube knows it's hard to tell if a video is real or if it's generated using AI.
`
This will get even harder as tools like Sora roll out.

So YouTube has a new rule that if someone uses AI to create something that looks real, the creator has to tell its viewers.

It's being rolled out as a feature in YouTube Studio.

And a person is required to disclose AI used to make any lifelike-appearing person, place, scene, or event.

This isn't needed for things that are obviously artificial, like animations.

The platform has not yet said exactly what steps it will take against users who do not comply with the requirement.

It does say that it might go ahead and apply a label itself, particularly when the content could be misleading.

Perhaps we should be encouraged YouTube is taking steps to avoid misinformation.
