Active Learning

I recently heard a speech from a teacher of the year who talked about the innovative way he taught history. He got the students involved in acting out history to better understand it and to enjoy learning about it. And the teacher had the students put together a booklet for students much younger than them. This would help them explain the history in a simple and understandable way. And he would let the younger students grade the booklets. This is the kind of innovative teaching that is so needed to get young people interested in learning. The teacher I heard speak has answers for education of young people. I wish I had such a teacher in school instead of the typical teacher in front of class and students sitting chairs taking notes just so they could do well on tests, not actually to learn.
