The Alice Comedies are Walt Disney's first successful animated series. The cartoons follow the adventures of a live action little girl named Alice and her animated cat, Julius, through an animated world. Alice is played by Virginia Davis. The cartoons are animated by Ub Iwerks and were distributed by Margaret J. Winkler. The successful Alice Comedies series ran for 57 episodes and are the foundation of the Disney Bros Studio. The series was finally replaced by Walt's new star, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 1927.

16 Alice Comedies shorts are believed to be lost.

Alice's Day at Sea is the first short completed under the Disney Bros Studios contract with Margaret Winkler and was delivered on December 26, 1923. The Disneys rented back office of the Holly Vermont Realty located at 4651 Kingswell Avenue where they'd produce the entire Alice Comedies series.

This is the 2nd Alice Comedies cartoon in the series.
