This film was the first big screen appearance of heroic Autobot leader, Optimus Prime along with the evil tyrannical Decepticon leader, Megatron. This movie also featured Megatron's second in command, Starsream along with new characters Hot Rod and Galvatron!

The Transformers: The Movie also featured the voice talents of Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron, Orson Welles as the planet killer, Unicron with Judd Nelson as HHot Rod/Rodimus Prime.

The movie also included the voice talents of Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime/Ironhide, Frank Welker as Megatron/Soundwave/Rumble/Frenzy/Wheelie with Robert Stack as Ultra Magnus, John Moschitta Jr. as Blurr and Susan Blue as Arcee.
