Can you name a list of nuts? Most people will get the list incorrect. In fact, most people would include a list of items that are not nuts. Isn’t that nuts.
For the record pecans, sweet chestnuts, walnuts, Brazil nuts, beech, acorns, hazel, hornbeam and alders are all nuts.
Peanuts on the other hand is a legume and is in the same family as soy beans, black beans, lima beans, and well…beans. Yes, my dear, peanuts are more of a bean than a nut. Which makes sense because beans come in a pod as do peanuts. Not to mention no nut cracker is necessary to open a peanut.
Pistachios, cashews, pine nuts, and horse chestnuts are not nuts either, they are actually seeds.
And for those who don’t know, nuts are in the fruit family.
You’re shocked, aren’t you? Well, don’t go nuts over legumes, seeds, and nuts. Instead chill out and have a nutty snack, unless of course you’re allergic, then leave those nuts, legumes, and seeds alone.
