You might remember how, 2 years ago, the Jan. 6 Select Committee hired a TV producer in order to make really tight, well-edited hearings to release to the public.
In total, over the course of 6 months, 10 hearings were broadcast on TV.
And one of the most unexpected (and salacious) things to come out of these hearings was the testimony of Ms. Cassidy Hutchinson. At the tail end of the Trump administration, Ms. Hutchinson served as a top aide to Mark Meadows, the White House Chief of Staff. And during her testimony (which took up the entirety of the 6th televised hearing), she made some rather shocking claims about what President Trump did in his SUV on Jan. 6.
Among her claims was that President Trump became livid after not being taken to the Capitol—and that, as a result, he lunged at the steering wheel of the vehicle before trying to choke out his own secret service agent.
That is the story that the Jan. 6 Select Committee decided to broadcast to the entire world in their televised hearing.
Interestingly, however, there was another interview that the Jan. 6 Select Committee conducted behind closed doors that directly refuted what Ms. Hutchinson said. But, for some reason, the transcript of that testimony was not included in the final report of the J6 Committee (much less the televised hearings).
However, with the Republicans now in charge of the House, they’re digging through a lot of these previously unpublished interviews. In fact, House Republicans just released their own “Report on the Failures and Politicization of the January 6th Select Committee.”
The newly released information reveals that, despite what was said during the televised hearing, President Trump (who was 73 years old at the time) did not fly across the SUV to try and grab the steering wheel.
Instead, let’s go through what the driver actually said happened.
