The big lie put forward by western politicians and their media is that the ‘defence of Israel’ began when Hamas committed the atrocities of October 7. Nothing could be further from the truth. Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza commenced in 1967 and has become what Amnesty International calls, “50 years of dispossession.” ABC Australia’s Four Corners looked at what life was like for Palestinians in their own lands before October 7. Israel’s military rule disrupted every aspect of daily life in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Coupled with the significant funding of Hamas by Benjamin Netanyahu, this continuous grinding down of the Palestinian soul with no hope of a resolution could only have led to the violent uprising that eventually occurred. Four Corners asked Ami Ayalon (former Director of Israel’s internal security service, Shin Bet), and Ehud Barak (former Prime Minister and former Commander-in-Chief of the Israel Defence Forces) what they would have done living as Palestinians under these conditions. Ami Ayalon: “A life of people who dream about freedom and don’t see it. Whether we like it or not, we control the life of millions…. (If I were Palestinian) I would fight against Israel in order to achieve my liberty…. I would do everything in order to achieve my liberty, and that’s it.” Ehud Barak: “If I were born Palestinian I probably would have joined some terrorist organisation.”
