It’s lush and exotic and wonderfully mysterious. Set in an exotic place (Morocco) in the late 50s and about big issues of female friendship and finding and keeping your identity in marriage 2. “Text Me When You Get Home” by Kayleen Schaefer (non-fiction) - I picked this book up initially because of its title. Only women say this to each other and the author uses this title to riff on female friendships and why we need to nurture them. This book will generate lots of conversation. 3. ‘The Last Ballad’ by Wiley Cash - Based on the true story of Ella Mae Wiggins who organized textile workers in North Carolina in 1929 to strike for better pay and working conditions. It’s beautifully written and explores the big issue of social justice and civil rights. A timely read. 4. “The Great Alone” by Kristin Hannah - The main character returns from Vietnam and decides to move his family off the grid in Alaska. This is a riveting family chronicle about survival and family relationships, especially mothers and daughters.
