hummingbird snore
676
This fascinating tiny hummingbird emitts the most adorable high-pitched snores while waking up from a state of torpor and is rapidly restarting its metabolic engine, which requires a lot of oxygen 🐦😴
While a hummingbird is in torpor — a short-term hibernation, their heart and metabolic rate slows down considerably, helping their tiny bodies survive the cold nights and allows them to conserve energy.
Hummingbirds primarily eat nectar, tree sap, insects and pollen and they consume the human equivalent of a refrigerator full of food every day. Their unique wings have made hummingbirds the most manoeuvrable birds on the plane — and the only bird species which can fly backwards.
