Head On Collision on 59, 1 Deceased, MOSCOW, March 17, 2024 - At approximately 3:47 pm on March 17, 2024, a white 2023 Dodge pickup (pulling a loaded trailer), driven by John Rogers, 21, of New Caney, was south-bound on US-59. Rogers suddenly had a head on colliision with a black 2015 Chevy Malibu. The driver of the Malibu was in the north-bound lanes of 59, and suddenly went into a slide. The Malibu slid through the center median, entered the south-bound lanes and slammed head on into Rogers' pickup. Both vehicles came to rest in the grass on the right side of the south-bound lanes. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Officers from Corrigan Police Department, and Troopers Nick Hatton and Chris Cain with the Texas Highway Patrol. Deputy Adrian Ontiveros was the first emergency person on the scene and applied chest compressions to the driver of the Malibu (Juan D. Iglesias, 71, of Houston). Iglesias succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Rogers was uninjured. Traffic on the south-bound side of 59 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. It is not yet known what caused Iglesias to go into a slide and lose control of his vehicle. Justice of the Peace, Jamie Richardson, filed and inquest at the scene. A first-call car from Cochran Funeral Home transported Iglesias from the scene. Iglesias' vehicle was recovered by Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan, while Rogers' vehicle was recovered by Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan.
