Weeks after the fall of Avdiivka, the Russian defense ministry on March 14 released a video of a Ukrainian soldier who was allegedly caught while retreating from the city. The capture of Avdiivka was Russia's biggest gain in nearly a year. Ukrainian forces withdrew from the city on February 17 to "avoid encirclement".
