The Unseen Threat

Not every threat to law enforcement comes in the form of a plunging blade or speeding bullet. One of the gravest challenges our brave officers face is found in the power of the sharpened pen, wielded by woke, clueless, or handcuffed government officials who systematically separate our police from their paychecks.

Those who view police as the problem have discovered a foolproof method to remove them from the streets and leave our citizens defenseless. They reduce police budgets, eliminating positions and even defunding entire departments. This meat cleaver approach to chopping up the razor-thin blue line is cropping up in places that may surprise you…and not just left-leaning localities like New York, Maine, and Minnesota.

To be fair, budget concerns may contribute significantly to hard decisions faced by some caring officials in conservative locales, as is clearly the case in Louisiana. Its governor, Jeff Landry, recently declared a state emergency, after 18-hundred deputies were let go since last July. Landry’s declaration grants him legal authority to bypass limits on police payroll or hiring for Louisiana localities. The governor has also proposed a new state budget which would earmark 32 million dollars for important initiatives requested by the State Police, but it is not clear when the Louisiana State Legislature will deal with those issues.

In declaring the emergency, Landry noted that Louisiana’s reduction in police presence has resulted in “increased crime and less public safety.” And as the nation’s economic woes and woke policies like unrestrained, illegal immigration grow, the problem becomes an “ever greater” threat.

With funding for police already shrinking from coast to coast, even in law-and-order jurisdictions like Louisiana and Texas, we expect fewer state dollars may be made available to purchase life-saving gear for America’s first responders.
