The tragic murder of James Byrd Jr., a Black man, in Jasper, Texas, in 1998, by three white supremacists, sparked outrage and led to the passing of hate crime laws in Texas and the United States. In contrast, the recent murder of Mahagony Jackson, a 20-year-old mother in Alabama, has received little media attention despite its brutality. Both cases highlight the ongoing issues of media bias in America.
