Dash and body cam shows Florida deputy fends off aggressive turkey during traffic stop

A Florida deputy had a close encounter of the bird kind during a traffic stop.

Deputy Carson of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office was in the middle of a routine traffic stop on Feb. 29 when he was approached by an aggressive turkey.

The turkey was walking down the middle of a neighborhood street with a pack of chickens and turkeys.

Carson mistook the bird for a chicken and started quacking at it for an unknown reason, but the turkey wouldn’t let up.

“Somebody better come get their chicken,” Carson said, according to body camera video of the incident. “Quack!”

The deputy tried to deter the bird by raising his leg at it and talking off his hat to swat at it, telling the squawking turkey to back up.

“10-4, I’m getting attacked by a chicken right now,” Carson said into his radio. “I can’t believe this is happening.”

Carson herded the turkey to the other side of the road and escaped to the safety of his patrol vehicle.
