THE DEVON RAILWAY THAT VANISHED

Kingsbridge first acquired its railway connection in 1893 and then it became possible to board a train at Paddington London and travel to the heart of South Devon by train. The passengers would alight at Brent Station to connect to the Kingsbridge Branch and the train would follow the Avon River to stations Avonwick, Gara Bridge, Loddiswell, before arriving at Kingsbridge.
Our journey today is to focus on the level crossing at Topsham Bridge which lay between Gara Bridge and Loddiswell.
Topsham Bridge was a very remote location and a cottage was built for the crossing keeper, for many years there was no mains water or mains electric and 2 miles from the nearest village of Loddiswell.
There is some rare colour footage and several interesting photographs at Topsham Bridge.
