The chief of police in New Orleans has issued a warning about rats infesting the confiscated marijuana stored at the decrepit headquarters of the city’s police department.

During a meeting with the Criminal Justice Committee, Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick described the disturbing scene of rodents feasting on confiscated drugs.

“I want you to see the tray of all of the roaches, major rodents on the floor, the cockroaches, the rats eating our marijuana. They’re all high,” Kirkpatrick reported regarding the evidence room.

The current headquarters suffer from substandard conditions, including broken air conditioners and elevators. Kirkpatrick highlighted the lack of adequate restroom facilities for officers.

Councilmember Oliver Thomas, who chairs the Criminal Justice Committee, acknowledged the longstanding issue with the deteriorating facilities, NBC News reported.
