Four out of five wildfires are started by people, but dry weather, drought, and strong winds can create a recipe for the perfect disaster. So what has happened this past year? Here is a list of some of the largest fires throughout the world.

Alberta, Canada – March 2023 and still burning. 17 new fires already this year (2024).
Athens, Greece – July 2023
Lahaina, Maui – August 8-11, 2023
Tenerife, Spain – August 2023
Via Carlos Paz, Argentina – October 2023
Buenos Aires, Argentina – January 2024
Vina del Mar, Chile – Feb 2-5, 2024
Canadian, Texas – March 2024

Usually, it takes two or three months to completely extinguish a large wildfire if there is rain and humidity, yet Canada has had the worst of it with over 100 fires still lingering.

We covered the Maui fires extensively last August and since then we have watched the wildfires much more closely.
