Kendy Howard was found dead in the bathtub of her Athol, Idaho home with a gunshot wound to the head February 2, 2021. Kendy and her husband, Daniel, were in the middle of a contentious divorce and Kendy had disclosed prior incidents of domestic violence at the hands of her husband. At the time of her death, Kendy was getting ready to move out and start a new life, according to her friends and family.

The investigation revealed that Kendy may been unconscious prior to being shot through the roof of her mouth. Police also suspect that Daniel's previous law enforcement training allowed him to manipulate the crime scene in an attempt to deceive investigators.

Daniel was a former member of the Idaho State Police and retired in 2014 amidst theft charges regarding the personal use of ISP ammunition and property.

In April 2023, Daniel Howard was formally charged with the murder of Kendy. He does not face the death penalty.
