UPDATE: TikTok Ban

Thomas Massie’s Thoughts:

• Intentionally or unintentionally, This legislation to ban TikTok is a Trojan horse

• There are first amendment implications… The Government doesn’t need to “protect us” from information

• We don’t want the president picking which apps can be put on our phones or which websites we can visit

• The language is written way too broadly…. Meaning, the president can abuse that power and go after American companies.

• The term “Covered Company” does not include an entity that operates a website or application, whose primary purpose is to allow users to post product reviews, business reviews, or travel information and reviews….

“Why is this acceptation in the Bill?

Why did somebody feel they needed this acceptation if the bill itself only covers social media applications that foreign adversaries are running?”
