OREGON - Habitat Conservation Plan - 70 year plan to lock up Oregon State Forests

Oregon Department of Forestry’s Habitat Conservation Plan will shut down the harvest and management of 57% of state forests for 70 years. The effects of it will be felt by all Oregonians. Public comment and meetings have been held multiple times and culminated with the vote of the ODF board on March 7th. While the ODF moved forward with a vote they did so without any financial plan for replacing the funds that will be lost with the passage of the HCP. There was public testimony at the hearing by legislators, community members, industry leaders and foresters. In this post you listen in to 2 testimonies. One by Senator Betsy Johnson (she calls out the crookedness of the process) and a former 32 year employee of ODF who recently retired. One school district Jewell SD will be decimated by the loss of funds and will be suing ODF for their failures to follow the law. At the link in the bio of this account I have included 2 links to more information about the HCP. When I was posting about this in my stories someone commented “oh I feel sorry for those people in Eastern Oregon” . This will effect 15 counties including Marion County, Clackamas County, Lane County, Clatsop County and many others. AND ULTIMATELY ALL OF US…why? Because they will come after us to back fill this loss of funding. Please share with your friends. Thank you for helping to SHINE a light on this very important topic!
