Neve Campbell is returning for Scream 7 with original series writer Kevin Williamson directing. The upcoming seventh installment to the Scream franchise has been on the rocks in recent months after the star of the last two films, Jenna Ortega, decided to leave the project.

This resulted in the studio firing Jenna Ortega’s Scream co-star Melissa Barrera. Spyglass Studio initially wanted to make a continuation of the Carpenter sisters with Ortega and Berrera reprising their roles; however, since Ortega left the project to focus on Wednesday for Netflix the studio retooled the project. This included firing director Christopher Landon and re-writing the script.
