The Greatest Chess Champions of the World! (Part One)
The official world championships began in 1886 with the two-sided matches of Steinitz and Zuckertort. From 1886 to today and during this period, only 14 people have succeeded in achieving the honor of world championship, which shows that the importance and difficulty of reaching the world championship in chess cannot be compared to any other sport.
The current format of the World Chess Championship consists of a match between the reigning champion and another challenger. This match consists of a series of games played between two players, and the first player to reach a certain number of wins or ties is declared the winner. The number of games and the winning threshold may vary depending on the preferences of the organizers, but the most common tournament format is 12 games, where the first player to reach 6.5 is declared the winner.
The World Chess Championship has seen many great players over the years, including some of the biggest names in chess history such as Garry Kasparov, Anatoly Karpov, Bobby Fischer and Emanuel Lasker. These players have not only won the championship multiple times, but have also left an impact on the game of chess through their unique playing styles and helping to advance the game of chess.
