Archaeologists Find Lost Tombs on Military Base

Archaeologists conducting a walkover survey within the Eastern Sovereign Base Area (ESBA) at Dhekelia, a British overseas military base on the south coast of Cyprus, have rediscovered numerous “lost” tombs and archaeological sites.

The survey, led by the University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS), identified 51 sites, including historic buildings like churches and a watchtower.

The goal was to relocate around 60 possible archaeological sites recorded in the 1960s before ESBA development, Newsweek reported.
