The “world’s first” pothole-fixing robot, known as the Autonomous Road Repair System (ARRES) Prevent, has successfully completed its inaugural field test in the United Kingdom.

Developed by Robotiz3d in collaboration with the University of Liverpool and Hertfordshire County Council, the state-of-the-art robot employs imaging technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to detect, characterize, and repair potholes on-site.

During its first trial on March 6 in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, England, ARRES Prevent effectively addressed road potholes.

The technology, designed to identify and fill cracks automatically to prevent water seepage, has the potential to proactively prevent pothole formation, Interesting Engineering reported.
