Doug Talks About: Bacteria and Yeast: a double barrel infection

It seems we’ve all had a touch of the flu recently and fortunately many recovered without medication. But for those who have taken many rounds of antibiotics to help recover and then prevent future flare-ups, there seems to be a larger, long-term concern within the halls of science. Many infections today are “co-infections.” In the past several years, scientists have noticed that those who are treated, or perhaps over-treated with antibiotics tend to develop fungal infections. The exact cause of those fungal infections has eluded our scientists, but might the elephant in the room be a prescription pad? We will discuss what science is saying about this elephant in a two-part series today and tomorrow.
