Alexei Navalny was a Russian opposition leader, political activist, and anti-corruption campaigner. Born on June 4, 1976, in Butyn, Russia, Navalny studied law and finance before becoming involved in activism. He gained prominence through his blog, where he exposed corruption and criticized the Russian government. Navalny's efforts to bring attention to corruption and his calls for political reform have made him a significant figure in Russia's opposition movement. However, his activities have also led to legal troubles and clashes with the Russian authorities.

Navalny has been arrested multiple times, and he faced various legal challenges, including convictions on charges that he and his supporters claim are politically motivated. Despite these obstacles, he has persisted in his activism, participating in protests, running for political office, and utilizing social media to mobilize support.

One notable incident in Navalny's story is his poisoning in August 2020. While on a flight in Russia, he fell seriously ill and was later confirmed to have been poisoned with a nerve agent. After receiving treatment in Germany, he returned to Russia, where he was arrested, leading to widespread protests both in Russia and internationally.

On February 16th, 2024, the Federal Penitentiary Service in Russia announced that Alexei Navalny had died in a prison, in Western Siberia. According to the prison statement, Navalny had gone for a walk in the morning, felt unwell, and subsequently passed away. The prison authorities claimed that despite implementing resuscitation measures, they were unable to revive him.

Navalny's death raised widespread concerns and prompted demands for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his demise. Prior to his death, Navalny had complained of malnourishment and mistreatment in the prison, and he had been treated in a hospital.
