Broward sheriff's deputies shot and killed an active shooter suspect

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., BSO deputies responded to a call of a shooting near 250 N. Powerline Road and possibly another shooting nearby at 164 N. Powerline Road. Deputies located the victim, George Elvecius, in front of 164 N. Powerline Road suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until Pompano Beach Fire Rescue arrived on scene and transported Elvecius to Broward Health North where he died a short time later.

According to detectives, the preliminary investigation reveals the shooting began in the parking lot of 250 N. Powerline Road and ended in front of 164 N. Powerline Road.
